Scotts-Ortho Hose Connect

The Ortho Dial n Spray was designed around the parent company’s Scotts - Miracle-Grow Hose Connect. This concept utilizes the internal components and a similar venturi system as the Miracle Grow, relating the aesthetics while creating a distinction between the two using color palettes. While slight tweaks are made throughout the development process, this series is an excellent example of how our design, even from the pencil sketch, considers manufacturing, assembly, and number of components. Good Industrial Design, when finalized, should maintain its integrity throughout Engineering and into manufacturing with very few mechanical or aesthetic revisions. These 3 simple images show the integrity from the sketch, into the rendering and then the final product.

Bridging Innovation: The Art of Creating the Scotts-Ortho Hose Connect

As I delved into the world of garden care, I encountered a fascinating challenge: redesigning the Ortho Dial n Spray around its parent company's Scotts - Miracle-Gro Hose Connect. It was a project that promised to breathe new life into a classic while paying homage to the iconic Miracle Grow.

A Symphony of Components and Aesthetics

The heart of this concept lay in utilizing the internal components and embracing a venturi system reminiscent of the beloved Miracle Grow. It was a journey into aesthetics, where I sought to strike a delicate balance between familiarity and uniqueness. Color palettes became my artistic palette, allowing me to create a distinction between the two, all while preserving the underlying elegance of both products.

From Sketch to Reality: A Design Odyssey

My design journey was an exhilarating odyssey. From the earliest pencil sketches, I considered not just how it would look but also how it would be manufactured and assembled. The number of components, their interplay, and their seamless integration with the design were all crucial considerations. It was a testament to the art of Good Industrial Design - a vision that should maintain its integrity even as it transitions from the drawing board to engineering and finally into manufacturing.

Capturing Integrity in Three Images

As the project evolved, I couldn't help but marvel at the transformation. Three simple images captured the essence of our design journey - from that initial sketch, where the idea was born, to the vivid rendering that breathed life into the concept, and finally, the pristine reality, the Scotts-Ortho Hose Connect, a product ready to redefine how we connect with our gardens.

The Scotts-Ortho Hose Connect is more than just a redesign; it's a tribute to the art of merging tradition with innovation. It's about crafting a product that not only performs seamlessly but also embodies the timeless beauty of garden care. Welcome to the future of gardening, where every connection is a bridge to beauty and efficiency, where Good Industrial Design reigns supreme.
